Increasing demand for weight management solutions
Weight management is becoming an important global health issue. According to 2016 World Health Organization data, more than 1.9 billion adults were overweight. That's 40% of adult women and 39% of adult men - and of these, 650 million were obese. A person is considered overweight when they have a body mass index (BMI) of 25-29, and obese when they have a BMI of 30 and above. Weight management is an important priority for today's consumer. US weight-management dietary supplement sales reached $7.4 billion in 2022 according to The Nutrition Business Journal (NBJ), with sales increasing by 12.1% from 2021. In 2021, 21% of Asia Pacific consumers said they had used an over-the-counter nutritional supplement to lose weight, 35% of LATAM consumers wanted to lose or maintain their weight, and 43% of Generation X consumers in the US were prioritising their health and wellbeing to manage their weight.
